SGWA Clears Newly Opened South Fork Trail

The news we’ve all been waiting for – South Fork Trail is open again! On the weekend of July 14/15, over 20 SGWA volunteers showed up for a two day project on the South Fork Trail in preparation for the re-opening on July 20. Volunteers cleared South Fork Trail, Poopout Hill to South Fork Meadow and Dry Lake Trail up to Mine Shaft Saddle – 5.5 total miles of trail. Our crosscut saw crew cleared several large trees from the trail while the swampers cleared the dead wood, smoothed surface tread, cut back brush and filled in huge root ball holes.
Permits for South Fork and overnight camps are available now, please check our page for Permit Availability

SGWA Trail Crew works Vivian Creek Trail

On July 14 2017, six San Gorgonio Wilderness Association volunteers ascended Vivian Creek Trail with a crosscut saw and other tools to install a sign and remove a large tree from across the trail. They spent a total of 12 hours on the trail, hiking two miles farther up than they had planned to remove a second large downed tree reported by hikers.

Trail cleared!
