You may or may not find this relevant but, I took Devil’s Slide Trail up to Saddle Junction in the San Jacinto Wilderness and then up the PCT to about 9000′ to camp on Sat. Trail ice started at about 7000′; ankle to knee deep (unconsolidated) snow out of Saddle Junction which is at about 8000′. Perfect gear would have been microspikes and snowshoes, poles. As I had not brought snowshoes I did not attempt to summit. I saw many folks including a boys scout troop and their dad’s in precarious positions on icey trail with no traction devices. San Gorgonio may warrant crampons and ax depending on the route you choose.
