I hiked up to San G this weekend via Dobbs Ridge. Started at the Momyer lot, hiked up Mill Creek, connected with Vivian for a mile before turning off to ascent the unmarked Dobbs Ridge. The class 2 ridge, while unmarked, was incredibly obvious and didn’t require any bushwhacking. From the top of the ridge I made my way across the Dobbs peak plateau section and then ascended up to the SB divide trail just below Jepson Peak. Took the virtually snow-free trail to San G where I found the conditions to be generally favorable – warm, low wind and good visibility. Descended via the SB Divide trail and then via Falls Creek/Momyer back.
There were several sections of the SB Divide Trail between Jepson and Charlton peaks where the trail was fully covered in snow. The snow was soft enough that microspike weren’t necessary, just some balance needed for traversing some of the deeper snow sections.
