I’m leading a group of 12 or so and was thinking of Johns Meadow as a campsite option to potentially snowshoe into / around camp on March 23. Any information on the current snow conditions or driving to the trailhead? I stayed there last summer and read some about the dead trees in the area but didn’t find it too concerning to not stay a night in the future.

You should check here again around March 20 or so. Conditions now are no indication of what to expect a month from now. It’s a very snowy winter. With any luck, you’ll have great conditions for a memorable trip. Be sure to check the weather before you go, and don’t camp at Johns Meadow or anywhere effected by the lake fire if it’s going to be windy.
Late March is pretty early to hike in and camp at Johns Meadow unless everyone in your group is experienced enough to act independently.
