I came across a little red, black and white snake on Momyer heading toward Anderson Peak. I remembered “red on black venom lack” so wasn’t too concerned – but curious if anyone else has seen these snakes in the area?
Sounds like a CA Mountain Kingsnake. I haven’t seen one in person but would love to. What a great sighting! Kingsnakes have so many beautiful colors and patterns!
Yep! That was it. The Momyer offshoot to East San Bernardino Peak and Anderson Peak was pretty overgrown so I guess the little guy thought it would be OK to hang out on the trail. He couldn’t have been more than 8 inches long – the colors were much coolers than the pics. By the time I reached for my camera, he was gone.
