Along with many of you I’m deeply bummed on the apparent loss of most of the western-range SGW campsites for at least years to come. But today I came across a new fire boundary map published by the El Dorado Fire BAER (Burned Area Emergency Response) team based on latest surveys. If accurate it would appear that Trail Fork Springs camp actually lies outside the burn zone and much of the adjacent ridge trail as well. What was an easily accessible and uber-popular site (for good reasons) could now be–whenever reopened–a far more remote refuge when accessed from Upper Momyer, Falls Creek or Dollar Saddle. This possibility lifts my mood (somewhat) and gives me something to look forward to confirming–and hopefully too those of you who love these places.
