There is supposed to be some spring water spots .3 miles after Mineshaft Flat Camp. And there is supposed to be some spring water spots near Big Tree Camp.
Since this area has reopened last year after the Lake fire closure, there hasn’t been many reports about the camp and water status. It is possible that erosion and landslides may have changed the water and camping availability.
If you get a chance after your trip to report about the camp and water status to SGWA Forum, it would be appreciated.
WW–if you were going by one of the usual topo maps, Big Tree Camp is evidently shown to be in an incorrect location. Check out map corrections made by Good ‘Ol Hiking Jim (outstanding resource for anyone venturing into SGW) here under Appendix 1: http://hikinjim.blogspot.com/2013/10/six-backpacking-loops-in-san-gorgonio.html#momyer-vivian
