ParticipantHi Ranger Roxie and Ben,
That was my understanding as well, that the creek at high creek camp is pretty reliable. That said, I’ve only backpacked in this area in May, and each time there was plenty of running water at high creek camp.
Thanks,
Doug

ParticipantHi there, I have not been up but am planning on spending one night at High Creek camp on August 5th. Did you end up making your trip on the 24th? If so, how was the water situation?

ParticipantThanks for the helpful comment, Ranger Lon. I have a permit for the Saturday the 30th, after Memorial Day weekend (did this to avoid what I know would be the busiest weekend) but I will carefully discuss all our options with my trip mates and try to make the most informed and responsible decision we can.

ParticipantThank you both for your input!

ParticipantCorrection – it was the state health code stay at home order that listed camping as an approved activity as of May 9th. The USFS did just today open up some established campsites.

ParticipantI try to spend a night up at High Creek Camp in late May every year and I have always opted to bring a bear canister with me. I know it is not technically required on the permit, and I’ve never encountered any bears up here, but it gives me peace of mind. Also, I feel that it helps me build good backpacking habits for food/scented item storage for when I am visiting areas in which it is required.
