Sounds like a great trip! I have done the same-leave tent and backpack at Dry Lake and do day hike with just day pack. And yes, important to hang food in bear bag (or in bear canister) as there are bears in the area.

    Have a great time!

    About 1/2 mile walk.

Great choice for a hike! My Toyota Corolla can make it up the road, although there are washed-out areas so you need to go slowly and carefully. There is a parking area at the turnoff to the Forsee road, in front of the private camp, and it appears that it is ok to park there for hiking- I don’t see signs saying you can’t park there. You could at least park there and walk up the short road to the trailhead and check it out.

I was at Dry Lake a week ago and it is gorgeous! Tons of water in the lake. Nice hike via SF trail. Super busy on weekends but lots of camping opportunities. I don’t know what Dollar is like but earlier posts show lots of water there too. Enjoy!!!
